Why is sulphuric acid added to Ferrous ammonium sulphate?
To prepare double salts: ferrous ammonium sulphate (Mohr’s salt) and potash alum. Fe2+ and Al3+ ions undergo hydrolysis, therefore, while preparing aqueous solutions of ferrous sulphate and aluminium sulphate in water, 2-3 mL dilute sulphuric acid is added to prevent the hydrolysis of these salts.
What happens when ferrous sulphate reacts with sulphuric acid?
The oxidation of ferrous sulfate with oxygen-sulfur dioxide mixtures in aqueous sulfuric acid has been investigated. In the presence of excess oxygen, sulfur dioxide produces fast oxidation of ferrous ion probably because of the formation of reactive radicals such as HSO3, HO2, and OH.

What are the uses for ammonium sulphate?
Ammonium sulfate is commonly added to bread products as a dough conditioner. It is also a component in fire extinguisher pow- der and flame-proofing agents. It is used for many applications in the chemical, wood pulp, textile, and pharmaceutical industries.
Is ferrous sulfate the same as folic acid?
Ferrous sulfate and folic acid is used to treat iron deficiency anemia (a lack of red blood cells caused by having too little iron in the body). Ferrous sulfate and folic acid may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide. Before using this medication,…
Does ferrous sulfate have sulfur in it?
Ferrous sulfate contains about 19 percent iron, along with oxidized sulfur. When used as a soil treatment, naturally occurring soil microbes break down the component minerals.
What is ammonium sulfate used for in farming?
The primary use of ammonium sulfate is as a fertilizer for alkaline soils . In the soil the ammonium ion is released and forms a small amount of acid, lowering the pH balance of the soil, while contributing essential nitrogen for plant growth.
